How it’s sourced, made, and tested

Premium is an easy word to put on a pouch. Here is the part that actually backs it up.

Sockeye salmon being landed from an Alaskan fishing boat

Food Sourcing & Ingredients

Every batch begins in Alaska. Our sockeye is wild-caught by independent fishermen working the same runs their families have fished for generations — never farmed, never dyed, never treated with antibiotics.

Timing is most of the job. The fish are flash-frozen within hours of leaving the water, which locks in the fat before it has a chance to oxidise. That single detail is why a one-ingredient treat can taste like salmon instead of like a preservative — there is nothing in the pouch covering anything up.

Sockeye specifically, and not whichever salmon is cheapest this season. It runs leaner than farmed Atlantic, holds its structure through freeze-drying, and carries the deep red colour naturally, from its diet — no colouring added, because none is needed.

Then one step: we freeze-dry it. Slowly, at low temperature, so the cell structure stays intact and the nutrients stay put. What comes out is 2.5 ounces of salmon and nothing else. No binders, no glycerin, no “natural flavor” quietly doing the work.

Quality & Safety

In-house manufacturing

We control the entire manufacturing process, from sourcing ingredients to sealing the final pouch. Our facility lets us monitor every step of the production journey with precision, which is how we hold the line on quality rather than hoping a co-packer does.

That matters more with raw protein than with almost anything else. Freeze-drying is not a kill step — it removes water, it does not pasteurise — so safety has to be built into sourcing, handling, and testing rather than assumed at the end. It is the main reason we kept production in-house instead of outsourcing it.

What every batch goes through

  • Third-party laboratory pathogen testing
  • HACCP compliant
  • GMP compliant
  • FSMA compliant
  • Minimally processed

Batches are held until results come back clean. If something does not pass, it does not ship — there is no second tier and no discount channel for product that failed a test.

Frequently Asked

Wild-caught sockeye salmon. That is the entire ingredient list — no preservatives, binders, glycerin, colouring, or “natural flavour”.

Yes. Single-ingredient freeze-dried salmon suits both dogs and cats at all life stages, as a treat or a food topper. Cats generally need smaller portions given their size — the feeding guide has rough amounts by body weight.

Dehydrating uses heat to evaporate moisture. Freeze-drying freezes the salmon first, then removes the ice directly as vapour under vacuum — a process called sublimation. Because it never gets hot, the cell structure stays intact and more of the nutrients survive. It is also why the texture is light and crisp rather than chewy.

No refrigeration needed — freeze-drying removes almost all the moisture, so an unopened pouch is shelf-stable. After opening, press the air out, reseal it, and keep it somewhere cool and dry. Check the best-by date printed on the pouch.

No. These are a treat or topper, not a complete and balanced diet. Standard veterinary guidance is to keep treats under 10% of daily calories, with the rest coming from a complete food.

Every batch goes to an independent third-party laboratory for pathogen screening before release, and we hold the batch until results come back clean. We manufacture in-house under HACCP, GMP and FSMA-compliant processes. More on quality and safety.

A single-ingredient treat makes it far easier to know what your companion is actually reacting to, which is why they are often used alongside elimination diets. That said, we are not veterinarians — if your companion has a diagnosed condition or is on a prescribed diet, check with yours before introducing anything new.
